IMMUNIZATIONS
Immunizations are very important in the United States. Working in a Pre K setting, our children must have a certain series of shots before the age of five. If they are not updated, they are not allowed to start school. In many cases, some children have to go back for updates, if parents fail to do this during the school year, their child has to sit the rest of the year out. Here is a funny story I like to share, I am afraid of needles, when I was in grade school I was a real convincing little child. My mother would faithfully take me to the doctor, and everytime I would get out of the shots that was needed. As the years passed, it was time for me to go to college, I had to get a physical before I went to school. All those shots that I put off, I had to get tehm all at once. My arms were sore. I had five shots in each arm, plus a tb shot. I will never do that again.

Thank you for that information about immunizations. In California we have recently seen an increase of deaths in infants from Whooping Cough. This disease is preventible with the immunization pertussin. Because of the increase of parents choosing not to immunize their children, Whooping cough are again become a public health concern. It is most dangerous to infants under one year and unfortunately many parents are either not consistent with the timing of their children's immunizations or they decide to waive them all together. Hopefully with more education this trend will end.
